How to Pop the Question this Christmas

gents

Did you know that 40% of yearly proposals happen during the Christmas period, and a staggering 31% of those proposals are on Christmas Eve? Which means, if you’ve been dragging your heels in recent months, now is the time to up your game.

Whether you choose to join the masses and do it the day before Christmas or you decide to mix it up and ask them on Boxing Day, you need to put together a plan of action and make sure that the ring is right for them.

Personally, before I’d even start thinking about how to propose, I would sort out the ring. There is a lot to consider when you purchase an engagement ring and I always think that you’re going to make a high-priced purchase, you invest in quality. Do your research into diamond colour, cut, clarity and carat, and make sure you’ve chosen a band metal that suits your loved one’s lifestyle so it can last forever.

On the other hand, if you are worried about getting it right first time, you can always opt for a low-cost ring. This doesn’t mean that you’re a cheapskate; it simply suggests that you care about buying a ring that is perfect for them and that you would rather make the purchase of an expensive ring together.

Next, how are you going to ask? When surveyed, most individuals said that a simple ‘will you marry me?’ is the perfect way to propose. Therefore, forget your flash mobs, your barbershop quartet and general over the top gestures, keep it simple and romantic.

Are you supposed to get down on one knee? Well, that all depends on the situation. Traditionally a man kneels in front of a woman; however, we can thankfully now add same-sex couples to the equation and break tradition. Therefore, do whatever you feel is right at the time, I’m sure they won’t be bothered whether you’re on one knee or stood up holding their hands.

Where to do it? Luckily, you have a wealth of spots to choose from around the city. For example, you could opt for a romantic winter walk in the Botanical Gardens or take a casual boat trip down one of our many canals. If you’re looking for a top notch restaurant with great surroundings and atmosphere, I suggest would The Mailbox. There are plenty of options to choose from depending on your tastes and the setting is marvellous.

And finally, remember to keep your cool.
