Dame Joan Collins OBE has always been the ultimate ‘timeless beauty’, so it’s no coincidence that she chose this as the name for her new luxury beauty brand. Here she reveals her top beauty secrets, why she always does her own make-up
For Dame Joan, her love of beauty began as a young girl at home with her family. As the daughter of a theatre-agent father and former champion ballroom dancer mother (whose Uncle Godfrey also happened to own Rimmel), she would watch her glamorous mother and numerous aunts apply make-up, and try and copy them. Her father encouraged her to pursue acting, and as her career took off at the age of 16, she soon began to learn about beauty from the best in the business.
It was only when I went to Hollywood for my first American film that I learnt to how to properly apply make-up, she tells us.
As a Golden Globe-winning actress, author and producer, Joan has built a hugely successful career that has established her as a true international icon. For the astute businesswoman though this was still not enough, and after years of working with some of the greatest beauty professionals in television and cinema, Joan decided to take all her insider knowledge and passion for beauty and develop her own beauty brand.
Creating a make-up and beauty line has been on my radar for years, however it is a very complicated process to put together from start to finish and you need a huge team with so many skills to get it right. I couldn’t have done it without them – I have designers, chemists and experts who all specialise in the make-up industry.
Unlike some other celebrity ranges, Joan makes sure she is directly involved in developing and approving all her products.
