The winter beauty must-haves we’re loving

Read this in: 3 minutes

Increase hydration, layer up the lipstick and swap out your summer brights for festive bolds, here’s how to switch up your makeup bag to fit the winter weather.

Skincare prep

Alterations in weather can affect our skin drastically, so ensure to keep it plump with a continuously replenishing moisturiser. Use the Ultra Facial Cream, £24.50, Kiehl’s for soft and supple skin then layer with Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream, £33, Selfridges for a full face of hydration.

Face base

Simply use Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter, £30, Selfridges as a primer or foundation-topper to faux a natural glow. Layer with NYX’s Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation, £15, Boots for a medium to full coverage with windproof resistance – ideal if you’re braving the great outdoors. Keep the under eyes covered, illuminated and hydrated with the Hourglass Viel Retouching Fluid, £31, Harvey Nichols serum-like concealer.

Flush the cheeks

Mimic the fresh winter air with a flush of blush. Marc Jacobs Air Blush Soft Glow Duo in Kink and Kisses, £28, Harvey Nichols is the perfect pink cheek topper, and with the lack of sun and Vitamin D, fake a slight tan with Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer, £25, Debenhams. Brush the bronzer across the bridge of the nose, apple of the cheeks and middle of the forehead to replicate a truly sun-kissed look, even in the cold.

Easy on the eyes

For an undone fluffy brow, simply brush a coloured fibre gel, like Benefit Gimme Brow, £20.50, John Lewis, upwards through the hairs. For an easy, speedy smokey eye use the Laura Mericer Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Burnished Bronze, £23, John Lewis. Boasting a long-wear, crease-free formula in a reflective warm bronze, apply from lash line upwards and blend with fingers for a simple but standout eye. Add lashings of Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara, £8.99, Superdrug to finish the winter watery-eye resistant look.

Pucker up

Whether you want to go bold or hydrate chapped lips, we’ve got a pick for you. If you’re feeling a festive red then look no further than Powder Kiss Lipstick in Shocking Revelation, £17.50, MAC –a weightless classic red matte that won’t crack throughout the day, and will last you through a whole meal (and drinks after). To treat your pout, layer Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil, £19, Debenhams for the ultimate sweet-scented nourishment.
