The biggest coat trends of the season and where to shop them

Read this in: 4 minutes

The classic trench, colour-drenched faux fur, heritage checks & animal prints – here are the most on-trend coats this season, with styles to suit every budget.

Animal Print

Leopard, snake, cow, zebra – no animal print is safe from this season’s hottest trend. Dare to be wild and mix clashing prints within your outfit for added style points.

Zebra Print Blazer, £79.99, Zara

Earn your stripes in this oversized blazer from Zara. Wear over a roll-neck knit for daytime chic or with your favourite mini and strappy heels for evening glam.

Leopard Print Longline Coat, £39.99, New Look

If, like us, you haven’t quite had enough of leopard print just yet, this coat is just what you need to elevate any casual look without breaking the bank.

Crocodile Embossed Coat, £79, Topshop

For something a little more obscure that still packs a timeless appeal, Topshop’s croc trench will surely add a touch of luxe to your wardrobe this season.

Heritage Checks

Checks are the key directional print for this season and so easy to wear. More is more this A/W, so co-ordinate your coat with a matching maxi scarf and layer up in style.

Long Wool Coat, £139.99, Mango

This coat not only gets our approval for the double-breasting and chocolate brown colour-way (both key for AW18); but it’s also made from recycled wool – a big tick on our conscious consumer checklist.

Tie Belt Coat, £49.99, H&M

Simply layer this belted check coat over a pair of cropped ankle jeans; teamed up with a chunky sole trainer for off-duty cool, or with a low block heel for a feminine touch.

Check Coat, £25, Primark

Primark’s offering looks great over a chunky rib knit, but to take your look to new heights, you can also wear this with another AW18 staple; block-heeled knee high boots.

Colour-drenched Furs

Vivid brights and rich hues – whichever you choose, this look is far from understated.

Camille Shearling Coat, £300, Stand

Something for the bold and the brave; make a statement in this faux shearling coat in bright orange, chocolate brown or electric blue. Available at Harvey Nichols.

Faux Fur Coat, £69, Topshop

Let the coat do all the talking with this retro-inspired short coat from Topshop; pair with a simple tee and mom jeans for easy everyday styling.

Fluffy Faux Fur Coat, £54.99, New Look

New Look takes on the 70’s with this double-breasted coat in rust. Stick to the theme with denim kick flares or opt for colour-drenched realness by tonal blocking your whole outfit; a trend we’re also loving this season.

Trench Coats

Would it really be autumn without the trusted trench? It’s the ultimate coat for all year  round, come rain or shine.

Hurley Belted Mac, £295, Reiss

Every capsule wardrobe should have a trench on hand for trans-seasonal dressing. This contrast-buckle belted mac is smart and functional and serves as the perfect layer to complement your workwear.

Trench Coat With Pleat, £69.99, Zara

We’re loving this short jacket by Zara for so many reasons. It has a detachable hood – functionality, check; double-breasted fastening – on trend, check, and the buttoned back pleat design – attention to detail, check! A modern spin on an all time classic.

Suedette Trench Coat, £89, Warehouse

This suede-effect trench comes in our fave autumnal hues of khaki and tan, styled effortlessly with your favourite pair of jeans. Buy now and wear year after year.
