Five style trends men will be embracing in 2019

2019 is officially the year of looking great and feeling even better.

From menswear must-haves to products that will leave you smelling (and feeling) amazing, we’ve rounded up the top men’s fashion and grooming trends we expect to see everywhere this year.

Going Blonde

Chris Messina drew focus on the Golden Globes red carpet with his new bleached barnet, officially bringing bottle blonde hair on men as A Look from the fringes of “gay man going through a breakup” and into the mainstream. 2018 was the year of the French crop, but we think 2019 will see more and more guys discovering that blondes do, indeed, have more fun.

Think of this as an evolution of the cropped trouser trend that shows no sign of abating. Pinterest searches for plaid pants are up 267%, according to Stylecaster. Checked trousers make a great wardrobe addition both for the office and the bar; you can go subtle with muted colours, or make a statement with an eye-catching, Vivienne Westwood-esque tartan.

Sling Your Hook

The sling bag trend was a little baffling when we first encountered it, resembling more than anything the bumbag of the Nineties, worn across the torso. But there are some truly chic alternatives available, along with the usual clutches and briefcases, for those who don’t want to ruin the line of their trousers with a wallet or phone.

Signature Scents

Anybody who has walked through the fragrance section of a department store, tried on all of the products and left with a mild headache, may be interested in this more bespoke way of finding the right scent. Personalised, custom-made fragrances might at first seem like quite an extravagance, but they are becoming increasingly accessible, thanks to services like Waft and UNIQUE Fragrance, which allow customers to craft their very own cologne based on their preferred scent notes.

Serving Face

Personal grooming isn’t just about trimming your beard once a week anymore. 2018 was the year that the skincare market finally started to get through to men, and we predict that in 2019, the guys who are investing in toners, serums and SPF moisturisers will be going one step further and try out more anti-ageing products, and even makeup. Because no matter how well you care for your skin, the occasional breakout still occurs, and when that happens nobody should be without concealer or colour corrector.
