The dating apps to download if you’re done with Tinder

Read this in: 4 minutes

Modern-day dating is a bit of a minefield, but these apps exist to make the task that little easier without having to swipe right.

Bumble

Whether you’re looking to date, meet someone new or network, Bumble is the dating app that’s built around making connections. A great option for professionals, Bumble connects you with like-minded people within a certain radius, making it the first app ever to combine friendship, dates and networking on a single platform. Bumble also allows women to make the first move; in heterosexual matches, the woman has 24 hours to make their move and the man has 24 hours to respond. In same-sex matches, either person has 24 hours to make their move. But leave it too long and the match will fizzle out, so you’ve got to be brave and speak up before time runs out!

Happn

From walking to work to strolling to the shops, Happn connects you to the people that you’ve crossed paths with on your journey, the people that you’d like to find again. You’re probably wondering how this works, and well, it’s actually quite simple. Every time you walk past another Happn user, their profile will appear on your timeline. From here, you can see just how many times you’ve crossed paths with them and then what you decide to do next is up to you. If you decide that you no longer wish to see them on your timeline, simply tap the ‘X’ or, if you’d like to get to know your passerby a little more, tap the heart button to secretly show you like them – they won’t find out unless they tap it too – and if you’re feeling keen, hit the charm button to show your interest.

Now Dating

Praised by The Independent and GQ, Now Dating is great for those who want to cut to the chase. This app is all about living in the moment, or in this case, in the now and it’s super simple to use. Simply create your profile by adding the usual – photo, location, personal interests etc. and you’re good to go. What makes NOW unique is the way you meet people. Forget swiping right or building up the courage to message someone hours, days or weeks later. All you have to do is select a time period and venue, and you’ll get matched to people within your area who’re available at your selected time, then it’s up to you to invite them to meet you. If they say yes, then score you’ve got yourself a date! It’s as easy as that.

Hinge

Ok, so maybe this app does work on the same swipe basis as Tinder, but it’s designed specifically for young professionals and those who work in the creative industry. Similar to Bumble, users have just two weeks to get in touch with any matches that they make, otherwise they disappear. With a 4.5 star rating on the App Store, users set up their Hinge profile by linking it directly to their Facebook profile, which then allows them to swipe their way through any loose connections that are found through mutual friends. So forget your friends trying to set you up with their partners best pal and let Hinge do it for you.

Tastebuds

When we say there’s a dating app for everyone, we mean it! Probably the most unique app on this list, Tastebuds finds you matches based purely on your taste in music. Intrigued? Let us tell you more! Whether you’re looking for a new pal to share your love of your favourite band with or searching for someone to go that gig you’re desperate to get tickets for, Tastebuds is the perfect app for just that. By linking through to your Spotify or iPhone music library, the app will pull up the people nearby who have the same musical interests as you based on what you’re listening to.
