With Christmas just around the corner, we’ve rounded-up the TV specials that are coming to your screens.
The Great British Bake Off
Christmas Day, 4.45pm and Boxing Day, 7.00pm, BBC One
We don’t know about you, but we’re still getting over the heartbreak of saying farewell to GBBO as we know it. Thankfully, the BBC has a Christmas treat for us all as it will be showing not one, but two festive episode specials – hurrah! Mary, Paul, Sue and Mel will be joined by four past bakers per episode, who will compete in three Christmas challenges.
Dr Who The Return of Doctor Mysterio
Christmas Day, 5.45pm, BBC One
Despite having our annual dose of Bake Off and Strictly, we’ve missed Dr Who being on our screens. This Christmas the Doctor is joining forces with a superhero and an investigative journalist to protect New York from an alien invasion. We know it doesn’t sound very festive, but with a cast including Matt Lucas and Charity Wakefield, it’s bound to be great TV.
Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special
Christmas Day, 6.45pm, BBC One
Get ready for the annual Strictly Christmas special. Following an incredible 14th series that was packed with spectacular routines and plenty of sequins, past couples will once again take to the dance floor with their professional partners ready to wow the judges, and hopefully get a 10 from Len! After all, what’s Christmas Day without some Strictly Come Dancing sparkle?
Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes
Christmas Day, BBC One
With an all-star cast including David Walliams, Dominic West and Rob Brydon, the Oscar-nominated production company of The Gruffalo and The Stick Man is bringing Roald Dahl’s six classic fairy tales to life this Christmas in a two-part animation. In the past, short animations have warmed our hearts on a rather cold Christmas Day and are a fantastic watch for all of the family.
New Years Day, BBC One
What better way could there be to ring in 2017 than with a brand new episode of Sherlock. Series three ended on a massive high back in 2014 and ever since we’ve been patiently waiting for Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman to return. BBC One has released a number of dramatic teaser trailers this year, with the latest one airing straight after The Great British Bake Off final.
