The talented ladies’ squash team at Edgbaston Priory Club beat all of the competition at the European Squash Club Championships in style at the weekend
On Saturday 17th September the Edgbaston Priory Club’s Ladies Squash Team, sponsored by R.K Harrison Insurance, rose to victory at the European Championships which were held this year at the Pontefract Squash and Leisure Club. The best of the best were all there to battle it out in order to be crowned the winners from all over Europe, which included some of the world’s best players.
The victorious ladies team, which includes three top 50 ranked players, qualified to take part in the finals in April by winning the National Club Championships. The fabulous five were made up of Nicolette Fernandes, Deon Saffery, Millie Tomlinson, Leonie Holt and Beth Parker. This is the club’s first European title since 2010, following last year’s disappointing knock out in the semi-finals, but clearly that only made the team fiercer and more determined.
Mike Edward, Head Squash Coach at the club said:
The ladies went into this year’s European Club Championships as favourites but this can bring its own pressures. To dominate the tournament and to win in such style is a fantastic achievement for the team. Our win not only confirms our status as the top team in Europe, it also gives us automatic qualification for next year’s European Club Championships taking place in Paderborn Germany and the campaign to retain the title starts now.
Congratulations to the ladies team and we hope you celebrate in style!
