Earth Oven Baking Course

Martineau Gardens, Saturday 20 Oct
10am to 3pm – £5

Enjoy a day of baking and eating outdoors within the charming location of Martineau Gardens. The day will be lead by expert Earth Oven builder and chef, Lizzy Bean who encourages the use of local and seasonal produce. You’ll be taught how to build and stoke the fire, how to prepare for outdoor cooking, whilst baking bread rolls with homemade rosemary-infused olive oil.

Birmingham Photography Festival

Birmingham & Midland Institute, Saturday 20 Oct

The first Birmingham Photography Festival will take place in the heart of the city centre, featuring a series of inspirational and educational talks, discussions and even an interactive session. There will be plenty of opportunities to put in your questions and gain extra insight of industry experts. And at the end of the day, you’ll be invited to a get together over a drink at All Bar One to socialise with likeminded individuals.

Moon Magick Workshop

Looking for something more spiritual this weekend? This interactive workshop will allow you to explore the power of the moon and how it can affect our daily lives. This informative session has been created to give you a deeper insight into the moon by learning practical ways of working with the natural cycles to help enhance your life. Throughout the afternoon you’ll discover the four primary phases of the moon, take part in a guided demonstration of a tried and tested moon ritual and learn the different ways to work with the moon on a daily basis by creating your own personal oils and moon alters.

Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Festival Birmingham

What’s a better combination than wine, cheese and chocolate? Celebrating the very best in British Artisan Suppliers, this event invites you to a day of wine tasting, cheese gorging and chocolate worshipping.

Behind Bars: Ghosts of The Lock-Up

The Lock-Up, Friday 19 to Sunday 21 Oct

Get in the mood for Halloween by visiting a favourite location of ghost hunters – Birmingham’s Victorian Lock-Up. The venue will be resurrecting the spirits of the past with a three day event that will take you on a theatrical journey through the cells, corridors and stairways of the Grade II listed prison.

Since 1892, thousands of people have passed through the doors of the Lock-Up on their way to court, prison or the noose. Eight of the region’s leading writers will be exploring the ghosts’ past as they encounter real characters from robbers to murderers. The show, produced by Boldtext Playwrights, will last around an hour and runs several times a day between the 19-21 October.
