Former England cricket player, Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff has been announced as the latest addition to join the cast of Fat Friends – The Musical as the 2000 hit TV show prepares to embark on its UK tour.
The BAFTA nominated ITV show, created by Kay Mellor, followed the lives of a group of overweight friends as they struggle with the absurdities of modern dieting. Aired between October 2000 – 2005, the popular programme starred Gaynor Fay, Lisa Riley, Alison Steadman, and also launched the careers of Gavin and Stacey creators James Corden and Ruth Jones.
The full cast of the musical is yet to be revealed, but so far the line-up includes X Factor winner Sam Bailey, Jodie Prenger (winner of BBC series I’d Do Anything) and sees the acting debut of former England cricket captain and panellist of Sky One’s A League of Own, Andrew (Freddie) Flintoff.
Twelve years after the show wrapped on ITV, the new stage show will reunite the infamous group of loveable characters once more. Full of warmth, life and weight loss, Fat Friends – The Musical is packed with hopes, humour and heart that will see the characters put through their Zumba paces at their local branch of Super Slimmers.
With original music and songs composed by Nicholas Lloyd Webber, Fat Friends – The Musical will arrive at the New Alexandra Theatre from Tuesday April 3 – Saturday April 7 2018.
