Some may say that London is home to some of the best coffee shops in the country, but we’re starting to disagree. Whether you’re searching for a place to grab your morning drink or somewhere to work, here’s our round-up of the best coffee spots in Birmingham

Faculty | Piccadilly Arcade

Faculty takes coffee very seriously. Hidden in Piccadilly Arcade – blink and you’ll miss it – this quirky little coffee shop looks like it’s come straight out of London. With a stunning selection of blends, you can enjoy everything from a perfectly crafted flat white to a delicious V60 with some seriously good tasting notes. Oh, and while you’re there, make sure you pick up some of their sweet treats baked fresh in the bakery. They’re worth every bite – trust us.

Ngopi | Dale End

As Birmingham’s only Indonesian coffee shop, Ngopi has rapidly become one of our favourite spots for possibly the best filter coffee in the city. Roasted in house, here you can choose from a variety of blends, all with different tasting notes while tucking into the incredible food. Crafted by their knowledgeable barista, you can have your coffee inside the adorable shop or enjoy it as you stroll around the city. And if you like what your drinking, make sure you grab some of Ngopi’s drip coffee, it’s perfect for the office. If you’re visiting on a hot day, ask for a cold cappuccino or Ngopi’s signature, a Kopi Susu.

Tilt | City Arcade

Hidden within City Arcade, Tilt is a great place in the city centre; take a seat in its cosy interiors or battle it out on one of Tilt’s 13 pinball machines. And if a flat white doesn’t take your fancy, you can try out one of their wide selection of craft beers. Make sure you treat yourself to a slice of the signature bundt cake too!

Yorks | Stephenson Street & Ikon Gallery

Not just a place to grab one of the best brunches in the city, Yorks is a strong contender for providing the best coffee in the city. Whether you’re popping into their flagship on Stephenson Street or relaxing after strolling around Ikon Gallery, you won’t be disappointed by Yorks’ incredibly rich blends, hand-crafted by the lovely team of baristas. Not to mention the incredible food on offer, from tempting brunches to mouthwatering burgers and flatbreads.

Quarter Horse Coffee | Bristol Street

See yourself as a bit of a coffee connoisseur? Then Quarter Horse Coffee will be right up your street. Quarter Horse prides itself on roasting a quality blend that will give you the get-up-and-go you need to make it through the week. If you love their coffee as much as we do, you can order a subscription to the blend and even take a course on how to make the perfect espresso. Did we mention the interior of this place is totally dreamy too?

Wayland’s Yard | Bull Street

Ever since Wayland’s Yard branched out from Worcester and opened up its first shop on Bull Street, it’s become hugely popular for those working in the Colmore Row area and beyond. As well as dishing out some top-notch grub – the baked eggs are a personal favourite of ours – Wayland’s also has some great coffee which is roasted by Method Coffee Roasters to craft the perfect espresso for your coffee. We suggest you give the tasting board or an oat milk latte a go.

Just a stone’s throw away from Pigeon Park you’ll find 200 Degrees. With other homes in Leicester, Nottingham, Leeds and Cardiff, this independent knows how to make a seriously good cuppa Joe which you can enjoy within a relaxed atmosphere. As well as coffee, 200 also has a great selection of teas and cold drinks. Plus, there’s free WiFi and the caramel espresso brownies are an indulgent treat that you must try. They also recently opened their second shop right next to New Street, pop in and say hello.

There Goes Coffee | Digbeth Dining Club & Beyond

There Goes Coffee first popped up in Great Western Arcade early in 2019, serving up tasty coffee not just in a cup, but as a soft-serve ice cream which is a coffee-lovers absolute dream. Sadly, they had to leave their spot next to Morridge in GWA, but you can occasionally find them at Digbeth Dining Club. Follow them on Instagram to keep up to date with where they’ll be popping up across the city.

Caffiened | Gordon Road, Harborne

Caffiened is at the top of our list of places you need to pick up a seriously good coffee if you’re venturing outside the city centre. Just a short drive (or bus ride) away, this trendy independent located just off the High Street is a dreamy place to kick back and relax with a book in-hand. And if you’re not a coffee lover, we suggest you try out the incredible hot chocolate. Find out more about the shop here.

Bloom | Poplar Road, Kings Heath

‘Good Food x Good Coffee’ is the mantra that Bloom lives by. A collaboration between chef Tim Paine and barista Alasdair Houston that opened in summer 2017, Bloom looks like it’s been plucked out from a cosy side street in London, with a welcoming atmosphere and staff who serve up everything from a piccolo to a pour over. And if you’re a person that just has to Instagram your food or coffee before it’s demolished, Bloom is the perfect setting for snapping that perfect photo.

Home is Where | Church Street

Home is Where is the neighbour of Urban Emporium, Church Street. With a laid-back atmosphere and delicious coffee and cake, it makes the perfect base to work from home to tuck into a delicious breakfast or working lunch. Pay it a visit later in the day and you can pick up a cocktail before heading to across the road to Hotel du Vin for an espresso martini to top off your evening.

Urban Emporiums | Jewellery Quarter & Church Street

Start your morning off right with a coffee from Urban Emporiums. Whether you visit them at in Church Street or in the heart of Jewellery Quarter, you’ll find a warming cup of coffee waiting for you. And, if you have time to sit down, you’ll be spoilt for choice with Urban’s delicious brunch menu, offering everything from avocado smash to the mighty Urban Brekkie.
