Introducing: Meadowlark

Introducing Meadowlark, a growing Alternative band from Bristol, England, who are set to embark on a UK tour kicking off in Birmingham this September.

Formed by the duo Kate McGill (vocals and keys) and Daniel Broadley (guitar and synths), Meadowlark have just released their single “Quicksand” and will be playing Hare and Hounds on September 22.

McGill originally took to Youtube and used this as a platform to build up her popularity as a solo artist. She released an EP under her own name, but decided she wanted to change direction and pursue a career within a band.

The band came together and decided they wanted to follow an entirely new direction from McGill’s solo work and Broadley’s previous rock band. They released their self-titled debut EP on April 22nd, 2014, which was preceded by the lead single “I’ve Got You”. Meadowlark have supported several high-profile acts including Gabrielle Aplin, Stornoway and Lewis Watson.

The band released their EP named “Dual” in 2015, produced by Ant West of Oh Wonder. “Dual” has now reached over 4 million Spotify streams, and the lead single “Eyes Wide” achieved a coveted slot on Radio One’s BBC Introducing Playlist. Kate McGill and Daniel Broadley then released the EP “Paraffin”, which they described as an “an evolution”.

The EP offered an exciting glimpse into the future and what this duo are capable of. Wonderland stated “Meadowlark are quickly reaching new height”, Clash said Paraffin was “A wonderful blur of emotive songcraft and supple execution, and Earmilk commented that it was “pristinely crafted”.

And now, Meadowlark are back with their new single “Quicksand”. The emotive song was written after the duo were deeply moved by a story on Humans of New York, all about a family working in a brick kiln in Pakistan. The story pulled at the heart-strings of many, fundraising over $2 million for the charity working with other families who were trapped in similar situations. McGill said:

We were so heartbroken reading these stories. We get so swept up in our lives and forget how lucky we are on a daily basis. We wanted to acknowledge these incredibly brave people and all those who devote their lives to helping them.

Meadowlark are set to play numerous festivals this year including Dot To Dot and Bushtock, as well as a sold-out show supporting Mt Wolf at Hackney’s Oslo. But that’s not all! Meadowlark will embark on a UK headline tour throughout September and October. The band are set to play Middlesbrough, Manchester, Leicester, London, Leeds, Bristol, Brighton, and…Birmingham!
