Magic Door is making a very welcome return to Birmingham for its only summer party on Friday 7th August at Lab 11. With a compliment of festival appearances from June to Sept and a second London party back in June, the glittered up Magic Door gang have just about squeezed a sun kissed date into their home city.

In what is turning out to be an incredibly busy few months, the team have just returned from the 10th and final Garden Festival in Croatia, where their boat party was one of the festival’s highlights; a daytime voyage in which every party person was welcomed onto the boat by an assembly of Crafty Girls with a flower garland, then fully glittered up on board once on the open seas. Old friends of Magic Door PBR Streetgang were the guest DJs for the day to play alongside residents Jukes of Hazard and Deano Ferrino. However, Maxxi Soundsystem and Waifs & Strays were also partying on board and jumped on the decks for a massive impromptu back to back session with all the other DJs. The overall result was a start to finish, dance floor packed, hands in the air and incredibly electric atmosphere on what was the penultimate day of the week long festival, a day where most on board would have been forgiven for not being at their partying best.

Magic Door’s co-founder, Jit Patel, explains: “We’re having a brilliant year so far with each Magic Door topping the last. Our pop-up London parties have been great and plans are coming together go to other cities too. Croatia was again so special for us, we have got great bond with the place and look forward to hopefully returning next year for the launch of The Garden Festival’s new legacy, Love International. And with lots of amazing gallivanting under our belts we are looking forward to being back in in our home city, Birmingham. There is such amazing support for our parties there. We are at a point where we only really look at using venues that have a 1000+ capacity, such is the interest in what we do. With this scale and the fact all our Birmingham events have pre-sold out for over a year, it gives us the confidence to really go to town with production, DJs and any off-ball ideas we like the sound of. Our last Birmingham party had 5 secret guest DJs and the introduction of a confession booth!

“We again have got a great special guests DJ which we will reveal on the night, in addition to ever present residents Jukes of Hazard (which I am one half of!) and Deano Ferrino, plus an array of some favourite local and national DJs who also happen to be our friends to finish of the 3 room lineup. We feel passionately that this is what defines Magic Door – not just the amazing and vibrant spectrum of people who come to our parties, but everyone behind the scenes too – it’s really got a family feel where everybody knows everyone else, or if you don’t when you arrive you certainly do when you leave!”

The party’s eccentric ethos remains built around only announcing special guests on the night, an abundance of disco, glitter, feathers and beans, and continuing to sell shows out in advance before the first record has been played. This is partly what makes Magic Door stand out; as well as its army of 50+ people helping out at each show, from the Crafty Girls and their amazing makeup to GoD (Guardian of Door) and The Devil, to focusing on the décor, production and overall experience as much as the music.

This is the only night to catch Magic Door in Birmingham this summer on Friday 7th August, and as always – expect the spectacular.
