With this year’s Brit Awards just one week away, we’re taking a little trip down memory lane. From *that* Madonna fall to *that* Geri Halliwell dress, here are the top 10 iconic moments that have blessed our screens at the Brit Awards.
When Adele got cut off by James Cordon during her acceptance speech | 2012
The nation was left in a fit of rage at the 2012 Brit’s after poor Adele’s acceptance speech was cut short to make way for Blur’s Outstanding Contribution to Music performance. After picking up British Album of the Year for 21, her third award of the evening, Adele was approached by host James Corden, who in the politest way possible, asked her to bring her speech to a rather abrupt close. Needless to say, she wasn’t too impressed with the whole thing and stuck her middle finger up before exiting stage right.
When Harry Styles was late accepting an award because he was on the loo | 2014
The One Direction lads did pretty well for themselves at the 2014 Brits, walking away with the British Video Award, British Single and Britsh Group Award. But when they went to collect the prestigious Global Success Award from Rosie Huntington-Whitley, there was one thing missing – and it wasn’t Zayn. Harry Styles failed to make it on the stage in time because he’d taken the opportunity to run to the loo, missing the group being announced as winners.
When 1D won an award…but only Liam was there to accept it | 2017
When Lorde made a stunning tribute to the legendary David Bowie | 2016
On January 10, 2016, the world of music was left shattered when the great David Bowie passed away following a battle with cancer, just two days after his 69th birthday. At just 19, Lorde was praised by viewers for her powerful and tasteful tribute to the late, great star, whose critically acclaimed music has left an imprint on music to this very day.
When Madonna’s cape sent her flying for all the wrong reasons | 2015
Every star has suffered a wardrobe malfunction at some point in their careers, but we never thought we’d see the day when a cape took down the Queen of Pop. Poor Madge was sent flying at the 2015 Brit’s when her dancers pulled a little bit too hard on her cape during her performance of Living for Love. And despite taking one heck of a tumble down a flight of stairs, she dusted herself off and carried on like a true champion.
When Katy Perry got all political and performed with giant dancing skeletons | 2017
Katy Perry’s performance at last year’s awards was simply the gift that just kept on giving. First, she caught everyone’s attention with two huge skeletal figures whose appearances seemed to strongly resemble UK Prime Minister, Theresa May and President of the United States, Donald Trump. And if that wasn’t enough, everyone was left in stitches when one of her dancing houses feel off the stage mid-performance, with the shell being carried away not so discretely when the VT cut to host Dermot O’Leary.
I’ll just leave this here…
When a hardly clothed Sadie Pinn left Ant & Dec in a bit of a tiz | 2016
While presenting a link to introduce Jess Glynne to the stage, poor Ant and Dec where left shooketh when a scantily-clad Sadie Pinn randomly joined them… with absolutely no warning at all. Many weren’t happy about the situation, arguing that it was an unsuitable thing to show ahead of the watershed. The whole thing was a bit unusual, to say the least…
When Geri Halliwell debuted her iconic Union Jack dress | 1997
It’s been 21 years since Geri Halliwell first took to the stage in her iconic Union Jack dress. Little did she know that it would go on to become such a recognised piece of clothing that over two decades later, still has people talking. Just a year after wearing said dress, Gerri decided to auction it off for charity, where it was bought for a staggering £41,300 before going display at the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas.

Arctic Monkeys’s frontman Alex Turner didn’t look all that pleased that the band picked up their second Brit of the evening for British Album and many were left a bit confused by his acceptance speech. Whilst some questioned whether he was speaking absolute nonsense, dubbing him as pretentious, others requested that his speech was printed on T-shirts for championing the world of rock ‘n’ roll.
When ITV managed to bleep out every word Adele said apart from the word F*** before the watershed | 2012
Do we need to explain this any further? You had one job ITV…
