Best known for playing Phil Mitchell in the award-winning BBC soap, Steve McFadden is swapping the Albert Square streets for Birmingham Hippodrome to play the villainous King Rat in Dick Whittington.
The ‘rags to riches’ pantomime will kick off at Birmingham Hippodrome from Monday December 16th 2016 – Sunday January 29th 2017.
No stranger to pantomimes, Steve’s previous festive roles include Captain Hook in Peter Pan at High Wycombe Swan theatre in 2012/2013, and Abanazar in Aladdin at the Orchard Theatre, Dartford.
Speaking about his return to the Hippodrome, Steve said:
I can confidently say that Birmingham is home to one of the best pantomimes in the country! I’ve been to see Matt Slack in panto here for the last three years and I always feel such a strong connection with Birmingham audiences. They really know how to enjoy themselves!
Fellow panto co-star, Matt Slack is also returning to the Hippodrome for the fourth consecutive year, taking on the role of ‘Idle Jack’.
Joining Steve and Matt on stage this panto season is Torchwood star and theatre performer, John Barrowman who is stepping into the shoes of leading gent, Dick Whittington. Topping off the cast is legendary comedy duo, The Krankies, as Councillor and Jimmy Krankie and I’d Do Anything winner Jodie Prenger.
Following last year’s record-breaking production of Aladdin attended by nearly 120,000 people, Birmingham Hippodrome is thrilled to play host to another unmissable pantomime production of the fairy tale, Dick Whittington, this Christmas season.
