Rosie Kay Dance Company, headed by artistic director and choreographer Rosie Kay and winner of Best Independent Company at the Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards in 2015, will tour its new work MK ULTRA in Birmingham next year.

A thrilling mix of high-energy choreography, spectacular costumes inspired by the bizarre realm of pop culture mind control conspiracies, the MK Ultra tour will make its world premiere at Birmingham REP on March 17.

One of the the UK’s leading female choreographers, Rosie is renowned for her athletic movement, rigorous research and intelligent theatricality.

Her latest production, MK ULTRA delves into new topics that you’ve never heard of; exploring the weird world of conspiracy theories inspired by the bizarre realm of pop culture, mind control and Illuminati imagery, whilst bringing a hypnotic, supercharged mash-up of dance, music and imagery to the stage.

The Rosie Kay Dance Company is renowned for tackling important and challenging subject matters. Taking note of the weird world of symbolism, hidden messages and occult signs, they deconstruct the elements for an aware and unaware audience.

The name of the production is actually a CIA code word for a real LSD-fuelled brainwashing technique developed by the US military.

Popular conspiracy theories believe that MK Ultra is still active, programming high profile public figures and celebrities such as Justin Bieber and Rhianna – puppets of the Illuminati.

Kay delves deep into the world of conspiracy and conjures up something entirely new. If you don’t know much about the Illuminati, you soon will.

For MK Ultra, Kay is reuniting with the creative team behind the award-winning 5 SOLDIERS.

Set designer and illustrator, Gary Card will also be making his first designs for the contemporary show. In the past Card has worked with pop culture’s finest Lady Gaga, where he designed the props and headresses for her Monster Ball tour.

Speaking of MK Ultra, which is commissioned by DanceXchange, Birmingham REP and Warwick Arts Centre, Rosie said:

Exploring the conspiracy theory took me into strange realms of CIA brainwashing, celebrity training and Illuminati symbolism hidden in pop culture. MK Ultra looks at what this world really feels like and what affect it is having on us, whether we know it or not.

MK ULTRA runs at the REP until March 18 before heading off on its UK tour.
