Supersonic Music Festival | Multiple venues

For an eccentric twist to your weekend, head on over to the Supersonic music fest in Digbeth. Supersonic, which will include a variety of workshops, screenings and exhibitions, has established an explosively innovative reputation for itself since it was established over 10 years ago. With a line-up full of alternative music combined with digital experiments and visual art, this year’s should be as big as ever.

British Street Food Awards 2017 | Spotlight, Digbeth

Founded in 2009 by award-winning food journalist Richard Johnson, the British Street Food Awards is one of the hardest competitions in the world of street food. This live cook-off, judged by the general public, will see a variety of foods from Mac Daddies gourmet mac and cheese to Homeboys fried chicken and of course, last year’s winners Baked in Brick. Winners will go on to Berlin, where they will face European competition.

Rum in Brum | Prince of Wales, Moseley
Saturday and Sunday

It’s the return of Birmingham’s Original Rum Festival! Now in its third year, after previous success, the festival returns bigger and better than ever. With over 15 stalls of the finest international rum producers, a selection of street food vendors and live music throughout the day, this is a great day out for the rum-lovers. Tickets are £20, but this includes a cocktail on arrival, a full street food meal and free entry to a variety of masterclasses.

Paperdolls Summer Market | Custard Factory

A superb collection of craft work created by local designers is to be showcased at Custard Factory this Saturday. Founders Jo Dowsett and Carolyn Carter emphasise their love for all things handmade with their personally selected pieces. All designs, from home ceramics to jewellery and even illustrations reflect a somewhat dainty yet contemporary theme. Enjoy numerous DIY workshops throughout the day, as well as live music and coffee and cake! Entry is free and the market is open all day from 11 am – 6 pm!

Summer in Southside | Birmingham Hippodrome
Saturday & Sunday

Another summer festive event kicks off this Saturday as Birmingham Hippodrome welcomes back its popular festival, Summer in Southside. This year’s countryside theme will bring you animal encounters and country entertainment. And when the day is done, the celebrations don’t end as Birmingham-based band The Destroyers will bring energy to the already fun-filled atmosphere with their folk music. As a special treat, this year’s event will also feature a one-off performance by the Birmingham Royal Ballet and The Black Eagles acrobats.
