Something wicked this way comes – that’s right, the hit Broadway musical is heading back to Birmingham next year.
Wicked, the multi record-breaking musical and critically acclaimed production which was first brought to the Hippodrome back in 2014 will be running for four weeks only from Wednesday 4 – Sunday April 29.
One of the most successful productions of all time, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of the Witches’ of Oz, following the unlikely friendship between two sorcery students Glinda the Good and Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West).
Amy Ross, who has recently been starring as Nicole in the West End Production of Kinky Boots, will take on the role of Elphaba; Glinda will be performed by Helen Woolf, who most recently appeared in the Wicked in the West End and was part of the touring cast in 2013.
Other cast members include Eastenders star Aaron Sidwell as Fiyero, Steven Pinder as The Wizard and Doctor Dillamon, Kim Ismay as Madame Morrible, Emily Shaw as Nessarose, Iddon Jones as Boq and Nicky Bently as standby for Elphaba.
The last time Wicked was at the Hippodrome it was seen by more than 110,000 people, which is equivalent to one in 10 of the entire population of Birmingham according to Visit Birmingham.
The 17th longest-running show in the West End theatre history, Wicked recently celebrated a decade of performances at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre, and it’s currently touring the world visiting Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila, Shanghai and Beijing before it returns to the UK and Ireland in 2018.
