2019 has been a huge year for theatre and music in Birmingham, but with 2020 on the horizon, we’re getting super excited for the showstoppers and performers heading to the city that you won’t want to miss.

From musicals including SIX, The Phantom of the Opera and Mamma Mia to chart-topping singers: Stormzy, Diana Ross and A-ha (to name just a few), we’ve rounded-up eight incredible shows heading to the Second City in 2020.

The Book of Mormon | Birmingham Hippodrome | March 4 – 28

Embarking on a UK direct from the West End, we’re really excited for The Book of Mormon to come to Birmingham Hippodrome in March

The smash-hit Broadway musical, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the comedic geniuses who brought us South Park, and Bobby Lopez, co-writer of Avenue Q and Frozen, follows the journey of of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent on a mission to a place that’s about as far from Salt Lake City as you can get.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie | The Alexandra | March 16 – 21

The Book of Mormon isn’t the only West End show heading for the second city in 2020. Starring Bad Education‘s Layton Williams and Eastenders‘ Shane Richie, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is the fun, fabulous and heart-warming musical that has been winning over the hearts of critics and its audience alike at its current home in The Apollo Theatre.

Sixteen year old Jamie dreams of being a sensation but doesn’t quite feel like he fits in on his council estate in Sheffield. Supported by his loving mother and friends, he overcomes his greatest challenges to step into the spotlight.

The Woman in Black | The Alexandra | March 31 – April 4

Enjoy a ghost story? The chilling The Woman in Black is coming to The Alexandra as part of its huge 2019/2020 tour.

Celebrating its 30th year in the West End at the Fortune Theatre, the stage production based on Susan Hill’s novel will leave you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. It follows the story of Arthur Kipps, a lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a ‘Woman in Black’.

This brilliantly clever and spine-chilling production isn’t for the faint-hearted when it arrives, but if you’re brave enough, click here to book tickets.

Harry Styles | Arena Birmingham | April 15

Harry Styles brings his Love on Tour to Birmingham in April

Following on from the huge success of his debut self-titled album, Harry Styles is kicking off the European leg of Love On Tour tour at Arena Birmingham in April.

The former One Direction star released his debut album in 2017, which saw him sell out arenas across the country, as well as co-hosting The Late Late Show alongside James Cordon, and starring in the award-winning Dunkirk. He most recently became the face of Gucci’s latest universal fragrance, Mémoire.

Love on Tour comes in support of Styles’ forthcoming record, Fine Line, which features tracks including Lights Up and Watermelon Sugar. After his Birmingham date, Harry will also perform at multiple arenas across the UK, including two nights at the O2 in London.

Pet Shop Boys | Resorts World Arena | May 30

Synth-pop duo the Pet Shop Boys have announced a seven-date UK tour that fans simply won’t want to miss.

Coming to Resorts World Arena on May 30, the Dreamworld tour will celebrate the duo’s greatest hits spanning across their career of more than three decades. It also comes in support of their forthcoming record, Hotspot, which is due to hit shelves in January 2020.

Neil Tennant and keyboardist Chris Lowe exploded onto the music scene with their hit number one single, West End Girls in 1985. They went on to land three further UK number one singles and a UK number one album.

Elton John | Arena Birmingham | November 9

Elton John Farewell Yellowbrick Road

As one of the most celebrated artists, UK fans will finally be able to say their goodbyes to Sir Elton John in November as the final leg of his huge world tour comes to both Arena Birmingham (November 9) and Resorts World Arena (November 11).

With more than 300 dates across the globe, the Farewell Yellowbrick Road is bringing Elton’s career to a close, where he’ll be performing some of his greatest hits in a show that’ll go down in history.
