Disappointment when shopping for her own wedding floral bouquets led art teacher Ruqaiyya Qazi to branch out in a new creative direction – and now it’s changing the shape of floristry in Birmingham
Unable to find wedding flowers that grabbed her attention, Ruqaiyya was struck with how much better it would be if the bouquet could be preserved without withering and dying within days.
That moment of inspiration gave birth to The Flower Studio and its range of artisan, bespoke dried flower arrangements that survive for at least five years.
Demand for these eye-catching dried flowers – featuring colourful palm spears, pampas and bunny tail grass – has soared as consumers look for unique and more environmentally-friendly options that stand out from the crowd.
Mixing vibrant coloured feathers with dried seed pods and delicate petals, Ruqaiyya has let her imagination flow to create beautiful handcrafted displays.
“I love playing with colours and textures to make something bolder and my bespoke arrangements preserve flowers without them losing their delicate beauty,” explains Birmingham-born Ruqaiyya, aged 28.
“There’s no need for water and they are long-lasting and sustainable, which is important to people now. People have also had more time to work on their homes lately and they seem to want better products and to spend a bit more on something that will last longer.”
Ruqaiyya’s creations look equally as stunning when in a vase, decorating an occasion cake or as a wedding or memorial centrepiece.
