This September, Birmingham’s oldest and friendliest pub marks another milestone: 657 years of The Old Crown. To celebrate, the legendary Digbeth venue is hosting a Birthday Weekender on Saturday 27 September, featuring a free party and the chance to win £657.

Headlining the celebrations is award-winning Brummie artist Tat Vision, who will bring childhood nostalgia to life in his own brilliantly chaotic style. Look out for reimagined toys such as Rock ’Em Sock ’Em, Mr Frosty and Stretch Armstrong, cobbled together with tights, cardboard and whatever else he finds to hand. Fun, chaos and plenty of laughter are guaranteed.

The Old Crown’s birthday bash will also include:

A £657 cash giveaway

Live sets from DJ Paul Thomas and Night Shift

Delicious street food

Party games and giveaways

Goodie bags from local businesses

How to enter: simply reserve a free ticket online, or arrive between 4.00pm and 8.00pm on the day to receive a wristband and your chance to win. What would you do with £657?

The Old Crown is more than just a pub; it is part of Birmingham’s living history. Built in 1368, it is the city’s oldest non-secular building and the only structure still standing after the Battle of Birmingham in 1643. Over the centuries it has welcomed everyone from weary travellers to royalty — including Queen Elizabeth I, who stayed there on her return from Kenilworth Castle in 1575. Today, its iconic black-and-white timber frame remains a proud reminder of that rich heritage.

Six and a half centuries later, The Old Crown continues to thrive as one of Birmingham’s best-loved pubs. With two beer gardens and a packed calendar of events, from #DigbethStPats to its annual summer programme, the venue has become a true cultural hub. This year, it was also named a finalist in the Great British Pub Awards for Best Pub Garden, with the winner due to be announced just days before the birthday celebrations.

Free entry tickets to join in on this year’s celebrations are available to reserve now via Design My Night.
