Ever wondered why your emotions show on your skin?
Celebrity facialist and Founder of Heaven Skincare Deborah Mitchell explains why this happens and what products can help.
During these difficult times it’s no surprise that many of us are feeling more stressed, anxious and tired than usual. Worries about loved ones, the future and our health are constantly on our minds and I’m sure, like me, these issues show up on your skin – mine becomes oilier and more irritated than usual.
Because our minds and our skin are intrinsically linked, when we feel anxious the chemical response in your body makes skin more reactive. Immediate effects might be dryness and itching; longer-term you may notice acne and breakouts due to higher levels of stress hormones including cortisol, as well as psoriasis, rosacea, and eczema.
On top of this many of us are suffering from lack of sleep which can also have a negative effect on our complexion, lowering moisture and PH levels leading to dehydration, loss of radiance and dark circles around our eyes.

Acne
If you’re struggling with acne it may be down to a combination of stress and your lockdown diet. It may be tempting to pick or squeeze spots but this will leave long-term scarring, so ensuring skin is clean is essential to keep breakouts at bay. With its healing vitamin A, Heaven’s Cleanse & Foam Wash rejuvenates and repairs; while my Divine Cream contains organic mandarin and orange, natural sources of Vitamin C, to help heal scarring and blemishes.

Psoriasis
If you suffer from psoriasis you can make a few changes to your daily skincare routine that can to calm and heal flare-ups: avoid products that contain harsh chemicals that can inflame sensitivity and instead opt for ones with soothing organic ingredients. My Hydro Cleansing Milk uses delicate jojoba to balance and condition, and is gentle enough for all skin types. After cleansing add a few drops of Lia Oil Serum to penetrate the epidermis and deliver ingredients directly into your skin. The addition of organic rose and neroli repairs and reduces scarring.
