Lights Switch-On and Entertainment
The celebrations will kick off on Wednesday November 15 with the annual Christmas Lights Switch-On, from 6pm-9pm, this marks the grand opening of the market and the start of the season’s festivities. Visitors can enjoy an evening of entertainment, including the illumination of the Christmas tree by special guests, live musical performances and the enchanting Snowdog Art Trail.

A Culinary and Shopping Extravaganza
Christmas in Cathedral Square is not just about spreading holiday cheer; it’s also about savouring delightful culinary experiences and discovering unique treasures. The market boasts a selection of more than 40 stalls with local traders offering a range of crafts, food and drink.
You’ll be greeted by the enticing aromas of street food vendors including Gaucho, Chatty Patty and Vagabond, all waiting to tickle your taste buds. For those with a sweet tooth, Miss Macaroon is a must-visit. While those on the hunt for presents will be delighted by the handcrafted gifts on offer from the likes of Summer & Silver, students from Aston University, Cameler Spice Co and IUVO Skincare.

Entertainment for All Ages
They’ll be entertainment throughout the five weeks – keep an eye on the website for the latest news on performances and acts that will be featured throughout the festive season. The Helter Skelter makes its welcome return too… a fun addition that’s sure to bring laughter and excitement to the proceedings.
And of course Father Christmas himself will be arriving in the square on Saturday December 2 with free kids crafts from 11am-3pm to keep the little ones entertained.

Christmas in Cathedral Square will be open: Monday to Wednesday from 11am-8 pm; Thursday to Saturday from 11am-9pm; and Sundays from 12:30pm-8pm. Birmingham Cathedral is free for visitors to explore, and you can admire the stunning Burne-Jones windows after their extensive cleaning.
Cathedral Square is also a gateway to Birmingham’s Colmore Business District, a vibrant hub of restaurants, bars and attractions including The Ivy, Albert’s Schloss, Birmingham Museum and Art gallery, the iconic Grand Hotel, Michelin-starred Purnell’s, and for thrill-seekers the new F1 Arcade.
