Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has unveiled Mission Critical, a powerful new immersive exhibition bringing together the voices of former patients, critical care crews, and supporters who have helped sustain its lifesaving service over the past 35 years.

Mission Critical exhibition at Chamberlain Square, Birmingham: 10–12 April 2026.

The exhibition has launched in Birmingham city centre’s Chamberlain Square today (Friday 10 April 2026), offering the public an opportunity to explore the human stories behind one of the UK’s busiest air ambulance services.

Created to mark the charity’s 35th anniversary, Mission Critical presents a striking photographic journey from its first mission in 1991 through to the highly advanced pre-hospital emergency service it delivers today. The exhibition combines powerful imagery with personal testimonies, highlighting the evolution of clinical expertise, innovation, and operational capability over more than three decades.

Contributors include former patients whose lives were saved by the service, alongside members of the critical care teams whose work continues to shape its legacy.

Dr Omar Khan and Critical Care Paramedic Bekie Ferris, both part of the Mission Critical exhibition at Chamberlain Square.

The outdoor exhibition will remain in Chamberlain Square until 7pm on Sunday 12 April, before touring a series of the charity’s flagship events throughout the anniversary year.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity hopes the installation will shine a spotlight on the scale and importance of its lifesaving work across the region. Each mission is carried out by highly skilled critical care teams, including advanced pre-hospital emergency medicine doctors and paramedics, delivering hospital-level treatment at the scene of incidents.

Since its first mission in May 1991, the charity has grown into one of the UK’s most established air ambulance operators, reflecting a continued commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and rapid-response emergency care.

Emma Gray, Chief Operating Officer at Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said:

“As we mark 35 years of lifesaving service, we wanted to capture the true impact of Midlands Air Ambulance Charity in a way that honours everyone connected to our organisation. Mission Critical reflects the courage of our former patients and the unwavering dedication of our critical care teams who save lives every day.

“This exhibition not only celebrates the evolution of our pre-hospital emergency service since 1991, but also highlights the increasing demand and complexity of the missions we attend across the region. Our service is needed now more than ever.

“We are incredibly grateful to every former patient who has generously shared their story, to our crews whose professionalism underpins every mission, and to all our supporters who ensure our lifesaving work can continue.

Supporters are also invited to share their own stories and messages of thanks via maac35.dedicationpage.org.
