Rum lovers are in for a treat this weekend as Birmingham Rum Festival returns with an afternoon and evening of cocktails, live music and Caribbean-inspired flavours, alongside a special appearance from one of the city’s most famous musical exports.

Birmingham Rum Festival, The Cuban Embassy, Moseley — Sat 27 June, with Apache Indian.

Taking place at The Cuban Embassy in Moseley on Saturday 27 June the festival will welcome Apache Indian, the Birmingham-born artist behind the global hit Boom Shack-A-Lak.

Born and raised in Handsworth, Apache Indian sold more than 11 million records worldwide and became one of the defining voices of 1990s dancehall and reggae fusion. Festival-goers will have the chance to meet the musician and sample his Boom Shack-A-Lak Rum, a tropical blend inspired by his Indian and Caribbean heritage, featuring notes of mango and pineapple.

The appearance forms part of a packed programme celebrating rum from across the globe, with visitors able to sample a wide range of spirits, enjoy exclusive festival cocktails and soak up the atmosphere created by live performances throughout the day.

Among the brands taking part are Titan Spiced Rum, Brixworth, Dr Funk, Black Dragon Rum and Unleashed, alongside returning favourites Wildjac, Uche and Wray & Nephew. Each producer will be serving a bespoke cocktail created exclusively for the festival.

Live music from house band Rhythms del Toro will provide the soundtrack, helping to bring a taste of the tropics to one of Birmingham’s most distinctive independent venues.

With summer in full swing and tickets selling quickly, organisers are encouraging rum enthusiasts to secure their place in advance.
