Here at Style Birmingham, we’ve always focused on sharing everything that we love about our city. We love shining the spotlight and sharing stories about the incredible business and venues that make Birmingham what it is. But right now, our city and its independents are suffering.
Right now, we’re living in very challenging times. Scrolling through social media today my heart has been breaking seeing what COVID-19 is doing to small businesses in the city. I spend a lot of my time in cafes, bars and restaurants in Birmingham; I’ve come to know the staff, owners and managers to the point where they know my morning coffee order like the back of their hand. These people live and breathe hospitality, they make these places what they are, and it’s being taken away from them.
Some of us may be left with no choice but to stay in our homes and self-isolate, but now is also the time where these incredible places need our support more than ever before. If leaving the house isn’t an option for you, there are still ways you can help save spots that you love probably just as much as me: Yorks, The Wilderness, Waylands Yard – all of these places are at serious risk of being wiped out as a result of the necessary Government decisions.
So if you’re left wondering what you can do to help, here’s a list of all the things you can do to support our beloved independents to make sure they make it through this incredibly rough patch and keep being the beating heart of Birmingham. Take this story and spread it as far as you can. Together, we can tackle this.
