Summer’s here and it’s time to get away for a while. Whether it’s Morocco’s blazing red sunsets or Antalya’s crystalline shores, Birmingham Airport is your gateway for sun-splashed holidays, from Africa’s Atlantic coast to the cusp of Asia. So pack the hat, sunglasses, shorts and suncream, because life’s about to become a whole lot warmer.

With that in mind, here’s a selection of the best sunny escapes and new routes flying from Birmingham this summer:

Tivat, Montenegro

Stunning sea promenade in Tivat, Montenegro, along the picturesque Kotor Bay on the Adriatic Sea.

Squeezed between the Balkan countries of Croatia and Albania, Montenegro has a gorgeous coastline and the resort town of Tivat is the jewel in its crown. And Jet2’s new route from BHX means you can discover what this lesser-known gem is all about.

Headlined by Tivat’s shimmering marina Porto Montenegro, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Monaco or Cannes. With its sleek yachts, breezy palm-lined promenade, quality restaurants and stylish 5-star resorts, Porto Montenegro is the place to be but there’s more to Tivat than just its slick harbour.

Book a boat cruise from the Pina waterfront, explore the ancient village of Donja Lastva, sample traditional Montenegran seafood like grilled squid or visit the Maritime Heritage Museum. Or simply hit the beach and soak in Tivat’s stunning mountainous surroundings. Either way, you’re in for a great time in this sublime Adriatic town.

Agadir, Morocco

Colourful tagine plates on display at a store in a Moroccan souk.

Morocco’s premier resort city brings 300 days of sunshine year-round, but it really hits its stride in those warm summer days. Starting at its shiny white marina, Agadir’s vast beach sweeps south and is the perfect place to marinade under the warm African sun. And with a selection of fine palm-dotted resorts serving up irresistible Moroccan food and glittering swimming pools, Agadir is an intriguing newcomer to BHX’s summer holiday selection.

Antalya, Turkey

Harbour in Antalya’s historic Kaleici, or old town, Turkey.

It may be Turkey’s 5th largest city, but Antalya is better known for its cinematic Riviera cliffs, golden beaches and fabulous resorts. Once a Roman port on Turkey’s southern coast, this is now one of Europe’s most popular holiday hotspots and – judging by its wonderful weather and fine food – that should come as no surprise. It’s also versatile, operating as a perfect spot to kick back by the pool for a week though if you want to put your exploring boots on, then there’s some fascinating history and stories to discover too.

Enfidha, Tunisia

Scenic view overlooking the seaside and the white-blue village of Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia

Enfidha is the gateway to Hammamet, Tunisia’s original resort town. Located on Tunisia’s Mediterranean Cape Bon, the resorts on this sun-kissed coast are laid-back, affordable and populated by some of the friendliest hotel service you’ll find anywhere. Beyond the breezy sunbeds and parasols, you’ll find excellent markets teeming with unique trinkets, fiery harissa-infused North African cuisine and pretty whitewashed architecture.

Larnaca, Cyprus

Beautiful view of the castle of Larnaca, on the island of Cyprus

Cyprus’ balmy position in the eastern Mediterranean means sun all year round and consistently hot summers. Landing at Larnaca on the south coast, you’ll notice that Cyprus is home to some of Europe’s most spectacular resorts though this city is rather splendid itself, especially at Finikoudes Beach. Meander its promenade, sip a morning coffee, sample some souvlaki, hit the beach and relax with a cold beer in the afternoon before enjoying a beautiful sunset.

Lesvos, Greek Islands

Picturesque old town of Mythimna (Molivos) on Lesvos island

It might be Greece’s third-largest island, but Lesvos certainly flies under the radar. Until now. Jet2.com’s new flight from BHX puts Lesvos firmly on the map, and there are plenty of reasons why. With its quaint towns, diverse wildlife, lush forests, hilltop monasteries, fresh food and laid-back fishing villages, Lesvos is an enchanting and unique Greek getaway.

More Summer Sun

Introducing a new route to Jerez de los Caballeros, a city in Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain!

Flights take off from BHX every day to warmer climes, and there’s much to choose from. Further west along the coast from Antalya sit the pristine beaches and turquoise waters of Dalaman, while south of the Mediterranean altogether is Egypt’s Red Sea and its famous resort town of Sharm El Sheik.

Prefer the Spanish sun? Alicante is just a short 2.5-hour flight from Birmingham, and its mix of traditional Spanish food and culture alongside classic beach resorts in nearby Benidorm and Torrevieja make it a consistently great holiday choice. Further south, the volcanic Canary Islands boast balmy weather all year round though the summer is when they shine brightest. Tenerife surprises with its number of things to do, including mountain cycling, stargazing and vineyard visits, while Fuerteventura’s 150km of golden sands make it the best beach break of them all.

Exciting news for those looking for new destinations: Jet2.com has just launched a new route to Jerez, a beautiful southern Spanish city, starting in May 2025. Flights to this stunning location are now bookable.
