Natural materials like rattan, bamboo and cane are seeing a real emergence when it comes to our interior choices. Very much a look from the 70s, they are ideal for those looking for more eco-friendly trend, especially if you search out vintage versions.

I’m quite the fan of this look and constantly scouring Ebay and Facebook Marketplace for second hand budget buys. It’s a style that fits perfectly with my own choice of retro design and I love that it gives a light and airy look to any room.

While the terms are often interchangeable, there is a difference between them: wicker refers to the method of weaving; rattan and cane come from the rattan palm which grows in Southeast Asia; while bamboo is known as “the world’s most renewable material” because it can grow up to one metre a day. All of them are durable, can be used outside or indoors and, added to that, tick those all-important environmentally friendly boxes.

Give your greenery an upgrade with this set of two rattan-style hanging planters from Very, £25 – hang from a curtain rail or in your kitchen to show off your plants in style.
