Birmingham certainly knows how to celebrate Christmas! We’ve pulled together our festive favourites to ensure you’ll make the most out of the season.
Ice Skating at Centenary Square
Get your skates on … the city’s Ice Rink is back! Located in Centenary Square until January 12, it’s open from 10am-10pm every day. What’s more, because it’s undercover you can enjoy yourself whatever the weather. Here you’ll also find Birmingham’s Big Wheel. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city’s most impressive sights, including the Library of Birmingham, Council House, Town Hall, Cube, Brindley Place and Britain’s biggest German Christmas Market.
Christmas in Cathedral Square
With more than 40 craft, gift, food and drink traders Christmas in Cathedral Square is the perfect place to get the gift list ticked off. The central attraction is the new pop-up The Pigeon in the Park pub, designed by a leading film and TV set company. It will be open until Sunday December 19, check traders and opening times online.
The Jewellery Quarter
The Jewellery Quarter will be shining bright (like a diamond?) with two 30ft trees and Birmingham’s largest lighting feature – a giant illuminated diamond ring – transforming the historic area into a winter wonderland. There’s also a Christmas Window Trail, showcasing 75 local businesses from across the world-famous district, which will be raising funds for Change into Action, an alternative giving scheme that supports specialist charities and street teams working with the homeless.
Festive Afternoon Tea
Take the weight off your Louboutins and enjoy Christmas afternoon tea for two at Harvey Nichols. There’s traditional festive favourites – like turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches, and pigs in blankets – and mini gingerbread, tiramisu, and strawberry, mint and elderflower panna cotta, alongside clotted cream and preserves, tea or coffee and mince pies. Priced at £55 for two, a bottle of Harvey Nichols Prosecco is included to toast the season in style.
Christmas Past at Aston Hall
Visitors to Aston Hall can experience the sights and sounds of the festive season from years gone by. Christmases Past will be brought to life by historical figures on December 4, 11 and 12 . There will be a Handmade Craft Market and a Christmas menu in the Stable Yard Café. Throughout December, the Hall will be beautifully decorated and open every Wednesday-Sunday until December 19. Opening times online.
The Jersey Boys at The Alexandra Theatre
Go behind the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons in the Olivier Award-winning, original Broadway sensation, Jersey Boys.
